ALERTS

3/29/17 The Plainview Water District maintains 1,261 hydrants within the Plainview-Old Bethpage community. To ensure proper operation, the District performs regular maintenance. This maintenance could possibly cause some discoloration of the water. In case you experience discoloration, please run the cold water until it clears.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

2/15/2017 The Plainview Water District was notified by Nassau County Police that an incident was reported, whereby individuals attempted entry into a home in the POB community posing as water district employees. Fortunately, the homeowner turned the individuals away and called 911. Residents should always ask for identification and check the immediate vicinity for a Plainview Water District Vehicle. When in doubt contact our office at 516-931-6469.

Water Conservation program is in effect 365 days a year.

The Plainview Water District wants to remind you that Nassau County has rules
concerning lawn sprinkling and hose use. Please learn these simple rules,
which will be strictly enforced, and follow them. Conserving our water benefits
everyone.

Lawn Sprinkling

  1. All water sprinkling for lawns, gardens, and shrubbery is prohibited between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
  2. 2. Houses with even-numbered street addresses may sprinkle on even-numbered calendar days, DURING THE PRESCRIBED HOURS: from midnight to 10:00 a.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to midnight.
Houses with odd-numbered street addresses may sprinkle on odd-numbered
calendar days, DURING THE PRESCRIBED HOURS: from midnight to 10:00
a.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to midnight.

Houses with no street numbers may sprinkle on even numbered calendar days,
DURING THE PRESCRIBED HOURS (from midnight to 10:00 AM and from 4:00
PM to midnight).

Hose Use

  1. 1. All hoses for exterior water use MUST be fitted with a hand-operated automatic-off nozzle valve.
  2. The hosing of driveways, sidewalks, or streets is PROHIBITED.

The following are some additional water conservation tips:

    • Use the dishwasher only when full or wash dishes by hand when possible.
    • While brushing teeth or shaving, turn the water faucet off until ready to rinse. This will save approximately 100 gallons of water a month.
    • Take a shorter -timed shower or install a low-flow showerhead. This will save approximately 450 gallons of water a month.
    • Check for and repair leaking faucets, toilets or pipes around the house to reduce water waste.
    • Reduce water consumption in a conventional toilet by adding a dam to the tank, the effect will fill up some of the space in the tank so less water is used. Several types of the commercially made tank dams are available, or fill a plastic bottle with water and set it in the tank away from the float.

Plainview Water District Commissioners stress the importance of keeping fire hydrants accessible all year long.

The Plainview Volunteer Fire Department does an excellent job of protecting the lives and homes of our residents. We must all keep in mind that fire hydrant accessibility is a primary factor in fighting fires successfully. That's why Plainview Water District Commissioners Joel Kessler, Andrew Bader, and Marc Laykind would like to remind homeowners and local businesses to make sure they keep areas surrounding fire hydrants clear so the fire department can connect its equipment without delay.

For your own protection and the protection of those you care about, the Plainview Water District urges you to keep this responsibility in mind; please remember when colder weather approaches to remove any snow that surrounds fire hydrants in front of your property. It is not only an important way to help our everyday heroes, but people's lives may depend on it.

The Plainvew Water District Board of Commissioners would like to thank its residents in advance for adhering to the Chairman's suggestion.
